My Story
About ten years ago, I was walking along the beach with my family. The day was perfect—blue sky, soft sand, gentle waves lapping the shore.
But I wasn’t really there. I wasn’t truly present.
I should have felt happy. I had a great family, a teaching job I’d worked hard for, a life I’d built. And yet, I wasn’t fully enjoying it. My mind was somewhere else—overthinking, worrying, analysing, feeling stuck in patterns of stress and self-doubt I couldn’t seem to shift.
It wasn’t that anything was wrong, exactly. It was just that I wasn’t experiencing life in the way I wanted to. And that was frustrating.
Like so many people, I felt like my thoughts, emotions, and reactions were just happening—as if they were beyond my control. I wanted to feel calmer, lighter, more present. I wanted to think differently, but I just didn’t know how to make that happen.
I tried reasoning with myself. Telling myself to stop overthinking, to be more positive, to just enjoy life. But none of it stuck. It felt like my mind was running on autopilot, and I had no way of overriding it.
I’d always felt like I should be able to figure things out on my own and had been reluctant to seek support. But I was exhausted by my own overthinking, and eventually, after encouragement from my family, I decided to try something different—I agreed to try Solution Focused Hypnotherapy
